Not like the brazen giant….

„If you can make it there, you can make it everywhere, New York, New York“ „leaving New York never easy, I saw the light fading out“ „I’m moving to New York, cause I’ve got problems with my sleep“…. I bet you 10 bucks that eveybody knows atleast 3 songs mentioning the big city. There seems to be something magnetic about it, like it has a spell to draw poeple to it. For centuries people have gone there ,and poeple who have never been there idolize it. The „sea-washed, sunset gates“ and the „Mother of Exiles“ still is home for the dreams of so manny. To be honest I could never understand how so many hearts, flying over the globe to find their destination got tangled in the skyscrapers, untill my path lead me there. The city that seemed nothing but gray and dangerous became my home so quickly, I never thought it would. I stood inbetween tall towers and felt so small and unimportant and than I stood on top of a tower and I felt like the world was mine to conquer. I guess it’s true- everything is just a matter of perspective. But it’s not the buildings, as impressive as they are, that make New York so awsome, it’s the poeple and what they brought from their cultures. It’s walking trough streets and pretty much making a trip around the world. It is walking through daybright illuminated streets on a tuesday at 3 am and meeting interesting people while having a fresh bagel with creamcheese and coffe on 7th avenue. It is being surroundet by all kinds of music and having the greatest paintings on brikwalls. There surely is a reason for creative minds to come here. Once you find your self sitting in a poetrypub, listening to a badly shaved guy reading a poem called „are you alive“ and noticing that you are not the only one in this room, you know this reason.

For there exists nothing, that doesn’t exist in New York.

Yes, you can feel lonely surrounded by thousends of poeple, but if you do, it’s your own choice because no matter how freaky you are, you are not the only one here. There are litlle villages within the city. The Village under the rainbow, the part where people are dressed in grey suits and walk 4mph, parks where girls have hula-competitions and softballgames and fatheres through some footballs with their kids or build a snowman.

When I sit in Central Park or Washington Square Park, drinking my Coffe and eating a vegan cookie I usually hear tourists talking and about 75% of the time they are Germans. After 6 month I stopped being anoyed and started smiling, just because they see all this buildings and they are impressed and then they leave again while I still have some month to truly get to know New York.So here I am big city show me what „Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command the air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame“ kepp ready for me.
